Come and Sing Evensong and Chapel Choir Reunion Dinner
Saturday 16 April, 2016

Following the great success of our inaugural St Salvator's Chapel Choir Alumni Evensong last April, we are delighted to invite you to join us at this year's event on Saturday 16 April, 2016. Last year we welcomed alumni of all eras from the 40s through to recent graduates, and we very much hope that a similarly broad range of vintages will attend this year to sing and socialise with current members of the choir. If you are in touch with any other Chapel Choir alumni, do encourage them to come along.

We will be joined for the service by St Katharine's Choir (a new upper-voice student choir) and the Children's Chapel Choir. Evensong will be preceded by coffee and a rehearsal, followed by drinks and dinner (dinner will be at a cost of £35 per person, payable on the day). Whilst participation in the Evensong is by no means compulsory, the more voices the merrier - we would love you to sing with us!

We are thrilled that former University organist John Kitchen will be sharing his St Andrean reminiscences with us over dinner. John’s busy and distinguished career includes positions as Edinburgh University Organist and Director of the Edinburgh University Singers, Director of Music of Old Saint Paul's Episcopal Church and Edinburgh City Organist with duties at the Usher Hall. We shall see whether he is able to top Jill Craig’s stirring rendition of Johnny’s Lost His Jorrie, with which last year’s dinner concluded!

The schedule for the day is:

  • 3pm Coffee and welcome, Hebdomadar’s Room
  • 4pm Rehearsal, St Salvator’s Chapel
  • 6pm Evensong, St Salvator’s Chapel
  • 7pm Drinks and dinner

The music for Evensong is:

  • Introit: O Radiant Dawn – Sir James MacMillan
  • Responses: Smith Psalm: 82
  • Canticles: Blair in B Minor
  • Anthem: Zadok the Priest – Handel

If you would like to join us, please let us know, as soon as possible, by email or telephone:

* This is an incredibly exciting time for music within St Andrews. The Chapel Choir's CDs are regularly being broadcast across the globe, and in March 2016 we will be travelling to Leipzig in order to perform a busy schedule of concerts with Dame Emma Kirkby. Student-run initiatives are also enjoying tremendous success - the Music Society has more members now than in any other point in its history, the Madrigal Group has reached 70 years of age, and several of our a cappella groups are receiving international acclaim. Plans for the development of a bespoke, new Music Centre building are also under way, which when complete will help to attract and accommodate increasing numbers of musically talented students.

* This event forms part of the University’s Alumni Festival Weekend and should you wish to make a weekend of it, there are numerous other events on offer. We hope very much to see you in April, and in the meantime if you have any questions about the Chapel Choir or the Festival, please contact alumni@st-andrews.ac.uk.
