The Scottish Varsity Match 2015

This week sees the return of the annual Scottish Varsity Match as the rugby teams of St Andrews and Edinburgh universities renew rivalry, but this year with a difference. The oldest Varsity Rugby Match in the world will return home to Scotland after four years in London, taking place at the BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday 26 September.

First played over 150 years ago, the two university clubs, both founder members of the Scottish (Rugby) Football Union, have shared the spoils since the match was re-established in 2011, and St Andrews go into this year's game looking to record a third consecutive victory. This year, the Women's 1st XI will also take on their Edinburgh counterparts from 5pm before the Men's 1st XIs from 6pm.

QS World University Rankings 2015/16

This week has seen St Andrews receive further international recognition, achieving our highest ever placing in world rankings by rising 20 places to reach 68th position in the QS World University Rankings 2015/16. The QS ranking is the most extensive listing of its kind taking into account a range of factors such as academic reputation, research strengths, citations, reputation with graduate employers and international influence, and surveying over 3500 institutions worldwide.

“This result speaks to our continuing commitment to academic excellence and to our enthusiastic adherence to the essential values of independent scholarly endeavour.”

Professor Louise Richardson, Principal & Vice-Chancellor

Scholarship support for Asian Students at St Andrews

The University of St Andrews and Missions Hills, China's premier golf and leisure brand, have taken a further step towards establishing scholarships to support bright Chinese students to study in Scotland. By hosting a high-profile charity golf tournament for the University, for a third year, at the Mission Hills complex at Dongguan, it is hoped that Chinese students will soon begin to benefit from the project.

This partnership comes hot on the heels of a successful series of University golf events centred around The Open Championship back in July, and ahead of the launch of the University's new Hong Kong Foundation later this year.
